Engagement Photography – Hannah & Sean

Posted by – May 14, 2012

The reason I like shoot weddings is the feeling. By nature I’m a stoic person, but there’s a part of me that is drawn to places of intense emotion. I like it when brides laugh, bridesmaids tear up and grooms cry. I like seeing genuine happiness and joy and peace. It’s a special thing that I get to do, to witness old families come together and new families be born. I cherish these powerful moments of beauty.

Every so often I come into contact with people I really admire. During our engagement shoot I found that Hannah Hillam and Sean Juárez very much qualify for that title. Theirs was one of my favorite sessions all year. Being around the respect, love and friendship that they so obviously have for each other was something that I am lucky to have experience.

I was really excited when they asked me to shoot their engagements. They are both very talented and I consider it a real treat to do work for other creatives. Hannah writes a blog called Verbal Vomit which I really like. She wrote a post about how she and Sean ended up together. She’s so cool. Read it.

Item 1. For about the last six months I’ve been working with my friend Cody Rigby on some personal advertising work for his band, Back Chat. Recently we got a little attention from the Daily Universe. Mason Porter interviewed us for an article about the process we go through to make these images. It’s really good, go read it.

To see more from this session, head over to the Back Chat Facebook page. While you’re there, go like Nomad, who did the makeup for this shoot. If you haven’t already, I highly suggest following my Tumblr. I post a lot of work that never gets seen here over there.

Item 2. Recently I was asked to submit a wedding related photo for a UVU publication, The V Magazine. I was pretty stoked to see they chose to put this image from Lynn & Alex’s Ice Castle engagement session on the cover! Sweet.

Item 3. I wont be able to book any more shoots after the 28th, so if you were planning on having me photograph say, your engagements, call me (801) 669-6652 or email me at trevor@trevorchristensen.com right now to reserve your spot. As that date approaches, space will become very limited (and I’m already booked up kind of full). Call. Me. Now.

Why wont I be able to take any more work after that date? Well. . .

Item 4. I’m going to be in Amman, Jordan for the next two months! I’ll be working alongside one of my best friends doing documentary photography for the NGO Zaytoon International (as well as shooting lots and lots of personal work). I am really, really excited that I’m getting to do this. I’ll be posting updates as frequently as possible on a sister blog.

Stay tuned.

Megan, Eric & I spent a beautiful afternoon in April taking engagements in Alpine, Utah. We ate, explored the area, played in a stream and appreciated good company. It was a wonderful experience.

Have I ever told you about my engagement boots? Whenever I shoot engagements I wear these boots. They allow me to focus on what’s happening in front of me and not what’s under me, so I can take pictures like this:

I’m really happy with this session, come back tomorrow for the rest.
