I’m really starting to enjoy shooting football. At the high school level there exists a perfect combination of access and passion. I’ve often heard journalists say that they like covering high school sports the most, those athletes just care more. I haven’t shot any collegiate or professional athletics, so I can’t compare, but I can confirm that the high school athletes down here have a wealth of passion — passion which makes sports a joy to shoot.
Because of print deadlines I often can’t stay to the end of the game. This is frustrating, since it feels like I’m leaving the story unfinished. As I get more accustomed to the filing system that The Spectrum uses, I expect I’ll be able to upload during halftime and stay to the end of the game, even if those photos only make it online/into my portfolio.
