After the shutter is pressed there are many different ways to process one photo. Black & white, color, crop, the list goes on.

Working with my photography I often create more then one image from the same photo. It’s interesting for me to see the different possibilities for each image. It helps me choose the best one.

But sometimes there is no best photograph. Just different takes on the same image.

This brings up a question: Why don’t photographers show multiple takes on the same photo?

I’m preparing to take my own senior portraits (one year later). These are photos to test the lighting.

This is the original photo

These are some images I made from that photo.

Some of these I like more then others, The one that stand out to me the most in the last. But I think each photo has a different feel and brings a different quality.

So I wonder, why not show multiple takes of the same image?

My main man Bruce Call left for Jordan early this morning. Last time he was there he started a blog called bruce-in-jordan.blogspot.com. It was real good and I’m excited for him to start adding new content.

The best part of him going to the Middle East is that he comes back with a (slight) tan. A tan that goes away within two weeks. That kid is pale.

Around my Sophomore year in high school I started walking around town with a James Dean cardboard standup.

The best part about walking around with him wasn’t the photos but peoples reactions – all positive. Everyone was stoked to see that guy.

There he is with Provo’s famous “5¢ Cigar” sign.

I took these photos when I was a Sophomore or Junior. They’re both teachers at Provo High, the guy on the right is Mr. Brown the band teacher, on the left is Mr. Hansen the Drafting teacher.

I guess I was really into taking pictures from down low, that’s harder then you think with a 50mm lens.

So I really like this picture because of the blue of the wall and the brown of the floor. I think it’s an interesting color dynamic.

Also my bud Diego Ibañez wrote a killer post on his blog. Check it out.

I shot* the rapper Noya yesterday. He’s a local guy getting ready to start doing shows around town and wanted some photos for promotion.

He’s a real cool guy and I hope he does well, if you want to hear his stuff you can go to his myspace page.

*Doom-ching!

As a fun bonus post today here is what Bruce would look like if he were a moisture farmer on a planet far, far away, just hearing the news that his father was killed in a random and tragic act of violence by Jawas.

At this very instant he is vowing to avenge his farthers death. Swearing a blood oath that he will not rest until his task in finished.

So have a great Tuesday!

I shoot a local hip hop artist today. I wanted to get a little practice in before the actual shoot, So Sunday I asked Bruce to come get his picture taken.

I think it is important to have a context for these photos. Bruce is not a rapper. He enjoys the musical stylings of Sigor Ros, Mum and the ambient bleeps and boops of early IBM and IBM compatible computers. He regularly refers to himself as a “conceptual artist”.

The first two aren’t great but I really like this one.

Deaf people bring balloons when they go to concerts. They feel the vibrations.

It’s little bits of information like the preceding that make me think I should do something with that. I’m never quite sure what though. Sometimes I write an article about them and put it in my zine. Sometimes I draw a picture.

Sometimes I just tell people.

This photo started out as a picture for my MySpace and Facebook profiles, I wanted to create an interesting image to represent me. I didn’t want to have a photo of me taken in the bathroom with my phone.

My grandma had given me a wooden T for Christmas and I thought it would be interesting to incorporate it into a photo of me, serving a subtle representation of me.
So I put the camera on timer and stood in front of a white wall.
When faced with a camera and the inevitable release of the shutter most people don’t know what to do. I am one of them.
This is why I am puckering my mouth. (At least I’m not doing that “suprised” look.)
I loaded the photo on the computer and start playing with it.

Eventually I came to this photo. Took my head out.

The bh4j on my shirt is distracting, so I took it out.

And added my name.
