Trace and I take a lot of walks these days. This night we ended up at tennis courts. I think it’s the lines created by the fences and boundaries that for interesting images.
These are out of focus, in this case I like that.
After we finished shooting a guy came over and was curious what we were doing. Eventually conversation led to him asking what camera he should buy. Nikon of course.
The Neon Trees played on the first day of Sego. They put on a really good show and know how to entertain a crowd. This makes them a very fun band to photograph.
Looking back at the time I spent shooting The Neon Trees I realized something. I always thought I just wasn’t that into show photography, but as it turns out it’s not show photography that I don’t like, it’s photographing indie bands. Indie music is great to listen to, but as a photographic subject there is typically little action or emotion.
Bands that are loud, angry and fast are much more interesting to shoot. When I get a faster lens I’m going to spend more time at hardcore & punk shows.
Next post will be the Sego photo essay I talked about.
I shot Myron the other day for an article in Square about keeping your skin and lips protected while on the slopes.
These shot are probably not going to be in the mag, but they make interesting portraits. I tried to make the b&w one as dark as possible without losing anything key. I’m not sure how it turned out, but it’s a start.
Speaking of Square, two of my photos are on the website now.
Image takes you to the home page. To read the ref article click here, to read the alternative sports article click here.
Not from me but from Matt Clayton and Nichole Hill.
I’m going to be going to both of them. It’ll be fun to get a picture out of it and I’m hoping the respective photographers let me stay a bit to observe their technique.
Information about Nichole Hill’s shoot here. Information about Matt Clayton’s shoot here. (For Matt’s you have to login to Facebook before the link will work.)
Update – 10.3.08
Nichole Hill has posted the photos.
