About a week ago I went on a bike ride around the house I just moved into. My house is by a lot of farms, and I think I'm getting pretty stoked on the way rural Utah looks. I used to think I wanted to live in the city, but maybe not so much anymore.

For the last few Sundays I’ve been trying to shoot at least one roll of film. The photos that I’ve taken have worked out pretty well, and I’m getting stoked on photography again.

I got my hands on an awesome Agfa Silette 1 the other day. Completely rad camera. The photos from this post are mostly from that camera + my Yashica Electra. (Both of these cameras are rangefinders, which will explain some of the focusing faux pas.)

Provo, Utah. Whoo! Trace smoking in front of Juice & Java.

I feel like there’s a certain freedom film gives me.

If I’d shot the photo above with my DSLR, I’d have looked at the screen and been like “Naa. . . this is lame.”

Not a great photo, but I just love my bike. Needs to be said.

The Sunday + film thing has been largely informal for me, but I think I’m going to make it a goal to shoot one roll of film every Sunday. It’s a good way to mix it up for me and get my creative juices flowing.

Under the freeway.

One of the things that makes film so rad is the way it deals with very bright light. When you over expose a digital photo it just becomes white and will start to bleed into the parts that aren’t over exposed. Now don’t get me wrong, film does the same thing, but it just looks so much better.

Wallgreen's scanner banding. Awesome.

I don’t know what’s up with the banding in some of these photos, I’m pretty sure it’s in Wallgreen’s crappy neg scanners.

Out of focus, but the color is nice.

I think for one roll of film I’m only going to shoot into the sun. Watch out.

Stoked on this.

I’m really stoked on this last photo. I haven’t taken a photos that I really like in a while. Some Sunday I’m going to only shoot double exposures.

Rad.

Critical Mass - Provo Utah

A while ago I joined the Critical Mass Facebook group thinking “Yeah, I’m totally going to attend!” Last Saturday I finally made good on that claim.

If you don’t know what Critical Mass is then I suggest you read the Wikipedia article on it. If you’re too lazy to read that a short explanation is this: It’s a big, fun bike ride.

Critical Mass is all ages This Shake Your Peace band member rolled with mad tunes, which must have sucked when he got to the big hill.

This Critical Mass was especially rad because Shake Your Peace led an awesome ride ending in a performance by the band.

Skate Bros!!!

I bought a Yashica rangefinder the other day at a thrift shop & took it out last Sunday. This is the first time I’ve shot film in about a year, and it was nice to get back to that.

The thing about rangefinders is that since the viewfinder and the lens that takes the actual picture are different, you don’t know what’s in focus till the film is developed.

So not all of the photos I took Sunday are in focus, but it’s my first time with a rangefinder, so I feel like I’ll get better.

It's a good sign when someone says "profile picture."

Gnar by the cemetery. I shaved my head the day before and got a sunburn, I'm not sure how neo-nazis can handle it. Maybe that's why they're full of so much hate.

Macey's.

Since there’s no mirror to flip up (like on an SLR) rangefinders are much quieter when taking a photo. It’s nice to have a simple *click* instead of the *CHI-CHICHK* of my DSLR. Keeps the mood a lot more chill.
